Let's be clear - street fashion is not only about comfort and convenience, but also about expressing a certain lifestyle and movement. If we treat fashion as an art and for designers, the fabric is the canvas, then they can give their collections a strong and clear message. And very literally! This season, both women's and men's outfits should feature T-shirts with a message or suggestive writing. See what messages are being sent to us by designers.

Street slang

One of the creators of the brand MISBHV, Natalia Maczek, might tell us a story about catchy slogans. Her T-shirt with a minimalist inscription 'WARSZAWA' became a sales hit in 2015, making Western Europe go crazy for T-shirts. That street style is a manifestation in itself, one doesn't need to be persuaded for long. Well-composed outfits usually underline the rebellious roots, individualism and non-conformism the brand wants to convey. However, designers go a step further and convey directly what resonates in their souls. Examples of party-loving designers could be T-shirts by Alexander Wang, who includes on his creations slogans like "MIND DETERGENT" referring to LSD, or Kenzo, who suggests that the owner of the shirt should already go home ("you should go home"). On the other hand, Haider Ackermann in his collection calls for silence, writing on T-shirts enormous white letters that form the word "SILENCE".

Strong messages of love

We live in strange times when terrorist attacks and human cruelty are daily headlines, no one needs to be persuaded of this. That's why influencers, celebrities, designers, among others, are trying to fight in all available ways to instil in our culture the good and love for another human being. Perhaps this idea inspired Michael Kors, who wrote big 'LOVE' on his sweatshirts from the spring-summer 2017 collection. Stella McCartney also smuggled a love confession into her collection, arranging interesting patterns on her T-shirts in earth colours.

Couture slogans

Maria Grazia Chiuri, responsible for Dior's spring-summer collection, has one message for her customers: "We all should be feminists." A white T-shirt with a strong female message goes well with a delicate, semi-transparent skirt in couture style. Another silhouette shows that this collection is DIOR (R)EVOLUTION, so it's a revolution of the brand and its modern embodiment.

Show the logo!

This motif has been repeated for many, many seasons and it seems that it will not disappear from our field of view for a long time. Strong branding of designer brands is proof of the power of marketing today. Logos of Moschino, Wang, Dior, or Versace are not only symbols of luxury, but also carriers of certain values that their fans identify with. Flaunting brand logos has come a long way, evolving from the concept of kitsch to become cult items. Today, Versace is a symbol of a strong and independent woman, MISBHV is a brand representing youthful freedom and individuality, and Moschino is about fun, joy and positive energy. Therefore, when choosing a branded T-shirt, do not be afraid of a large logo on your chest. Wear it with pride, just remember that the brand you wear should represent your spirit, not just the thickness of your wallet.
