A Proponent of Haute Couture
As he often mentions in his collections, Alexandre Vauthier strives to find the perfect balance between sensuality, elegance, and geometry. His creations grace the most significant red carpets, adorning the bodies of the biggest stars in film, music, and fashion. The French designer approaches haute couture in a modern and innovative way, which is why his collections sell without the major problems that often plague other designers. It seems that during a time when haute couture is in a deep crisis, Alexandre Vauthier has found his own path in creating unique and exclusive projects.
It's not surprising to marvel at the unique silhouettes designed by Vauthier—the French designer has been interested in fashion and, more specifically, the properties of materials and construction of all types of garments since his early years. He has always been particularly fascinated by women's clothing, as he saw the most potential for expression and embodying the intangible in them. The sensuality of a woman and her silhouette inspired young Alexandre, who at the age of twenty decided to enroll at ESMOD to study fashion designing. The school gave him the opportunity to acquire his first skills in construction, manual sewing, and selecting the right materials.
Alexandre Vauthier Learns from the Masters
However, it was his experience with Thierry Mugler that proved to be a turning point for the young creator. Mugler, in the 90s, reigned supreme as the king of fashion for powerful female silhouettes that exuded sex appeal while fascinating with their unique construction and geometry. This is precisely what captivated Vauthier, who still uses these elements in his projects. As the designer himself says, Mugler taught him not only how to work with material and create forms, but also how to quickly find solutions in situations that seem hopeless. This applied to design as well as any crisis situation that might occur in the studio.
After his stint with Mugler, Alexandre Vauthier came under the mentorship of his longtime mentor, the master of modern haute couture, Jean-Paul Gaultier. French designers have a knack for creating outfits that push the boundaries of traditional haute couture. Jean-Paul Gaultier is certainly one of the greatest legends of contemporary high fashion. Vauthier still admits how lucky he was to learn from a master of creation and imagination. From 1997, for the next eight years, Vauthier held the position of chief designer of haute couture collections and got to know this type of tailoring inside out.

Finally, in 2009, Alexandre Vauthier dared to present his own collection, and naturally, he chose Paris Fashion Week for this. The collection was met with thunderous applause and very favorable reviews from critics. A new haute couture designer appeared on the fashion scene, in whom one could see the daring of Mugler, the fantasy of Gaultier, and a good dose of his own interpretation of fashion. The collection for the autumn season of 2020 is based on timeless black, but also on vivid colors with a strong character. It does not lack fuchsia, venomous green and mysterious purple.
