The fashion house Yves Saint Laurent was established in 1961 and since then its designs never ceased to revolutionize the fashion industry with innovation.
Yves Saint Laurent who launched the Rive Gauche collection in 1966 was the first-ever designer who endorsed the avant-garde concept of the luxury prêt-à-porter for women. The men’s prêt-à-porter line was created in 1969. A large number of YSL stores soon opened all over the world. At this time, other designers started to wear noncomformist garments by Mr Saint Laurent as casual attire. It was the very first phase of fashion democratization.
In March 1999, the Yves Saint Laurent fashion house has been acquired by the Gucci Group. The new management decided to enhance the prestige of the brand.
During the managing reign of Valérie Hermann who was appointed CEO in 2005 and Stefano Pilati - the brand’s creative director appointed in 2004, the company revived the unique heritage of its creator by reinventing his collections. As of today, they blend elegance, the use of the most precious fabrics and refined yet subtle details.
In 2012, the brand changed its name to SAINT LAURENT thanks to Hedi Slimane, who was appointed creative director.
In 2016, Saint Laurent annouced the appointment of Anthony Vaccarello as the new creative director.
Women’s and men’s prêt-à-porter line, shoes, bags, leather accessories, jewellery, scarves, ties and sunglasses are the essences of Saint Laurent collections. On the one hand, they are aimed at uber-emancipated modern women who follow their instincts in order to seduce. On the other hand, they’re also destined for men who value subversive estheticism and showcase their personalities through contemporary and sensitive silhouettes.
Saint Laurent’s distribution network consists of 63 stores, many of which are located in Paris, New York, London, Milan, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Yves Saint Laurent collections can also be found in the most prestigious boutiques and multi-brand stores in the world.
